A DEBATE is set to take place in Parliament this evening over the controversial wind farm proposed for the Dorset coastline.
Bournemouth West MP Conor Burns has secured an adjournment debate in the main chamber of the House of Commons entitled ‘Navitus Bay Wind Farm and UNESCO’.
Mr Burns has been vocal in his opposition to the proposed development, which could see as many as 194 wind turbines as high as 200m placed off the coast – 12 miles from Christchurch, 13 from Bournemouth and Poole and nine from Swanage.
The plans have been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate, which will make the final decision as the project is deemed to be a major infrastructure development.
The wind farm would sit off parts of the Jurassic Coast and UNESCO, which designates such sites, has already voiced worries over the plans.
