A SUPERMARKET in Poole is undergoing a multi-million-pound refit to make it a ‘destination’ for Dorset residents.

Tesco based at Tower Park, on Yarrow Road, will soon host a new restaurant, offer dry cleaning services, sell takeaway pancakes and pizza, and host a completely revamped clothing department, as part of the investment.

The store, which currently employs around 480 staff and has a fleet of around 13 delivery vans, will also take on a minimum of 25 new people in a range of roles, while existing employees will receive retraining.

Manager Andy Hossack said: “It is a multi-million pound investment and this comes as the store celebrates its 25th anniversary.

“We have a new general merchandise department, all new equipment, a focussed snacking area for drinks, sandwiches and more.

“We will also have a new upgraded photo lab, opticians and pharmacy areas, as well as health and beauty departments and new clothing department.

“It is part of our strategy this year to transform the store.

“It is making it more of a destination alongside the online world.

“It’s all about embracing the digital age.”

Shoppers will be able to use a touch-screen in the store, allowing them to order in an item, which will be delivered to the shop the next day, while the store continues to offer click and collect for shopping.

Andy says that the new Giraffe restaurant, which will have its own dedicated entrance and exit, is an investment and proposition for the store.

He added: “It’s a funky, feel-good licensed restaurant with a wide-ranging menu serving a list of beers, wines, cocktails and burgers.

“I’ve been into one before and it’s got a great atmosphere.

“It is offering a new customer experience, where you’d take your family there, rather than simply eating in the café after doing the weekly shop.”

He says that many of the departments are already open and work is set to be completed within the next few weeks.
