Driver taken to hospital after two-car crash at Canford Bottom roundabout

Bournemouth Echo: UPDATE: Delays on A31 at Canford Bottom after collision UPDATE: Delays on A31 at Canford Bottom after collision

There are major delays following a crash on the A31 at Canford Bottom this morning.

Eastbound is blocked, causing congestion for rush hour motorists and traffic is being diverted.

There are long delays as a result of the road closures and diversions.

Two lanes remain closed but the roudabout is open.

Police were called at 7.50am to the two-vehicle crash involving a black Jeep and a black Vauxhall Astra.

Diversions are on from Leigh Road, Wimborne, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said.

Traffic lights, kerb stones and a pelican crossing have been damaged as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra has been taken to hospital.

The man's injuries are not believed to be serious.

Recovery is being arranged for the Astra.

Don't know whether this applies here but my observations are, generally, many commuters ignore yellow box junctions, jumped lights, tailgate and show little tolerance to anyone driving cautiously. Thankfully there are many drivers who do not do these things. I wish the motorists involved well.

Yup, this junction is a complete balls up. The 'improvements' just made it worse. This happens every time you try to do a half ar5ed job on road works, This peice of road should be a proper dual carriageway, all the way to dorchester or honiton. Over complicated, pointless roundabouts with dozens of traffic lights are only ever going to make it worse. Ditto what they've done a t Stonehenge. Everyone knows it needs to be dualed, but no-one has the guts to make the big calls. Back at canford bottom, the Rabbits died for nothing.

This mess up is down to pandering to a few 'high muck-a-mucks' connected with the olymprics who demanded that they should be able to swan down from 'Lunnon' with automatic switching of traffic lights in their favour so that their 'precious' time would not be wasted sitting in queues.
This is the so-called Olympric legacy which is also suffered by Weymouth with its 'non-intelligent' traffic light system.

This state of affairs won't improve until Dorset Council stop using work experience students to design their traffic schemes.

Nothing to do with Dorset this is a Highways Agency route so a department of transport scheme.
