A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted rape after a woman was found partly-undressed, injured and visibly distressed in the street.

Richard Davies, 40, of Ophir Gardens, Springbourne is alleged to have attempted to rape a woman aged 16 or over in Bournemouth on June 16.

Davies is also accused of two offences of assaulting a female aged 13 or over by penetration on the same date.

He appeared before Bournemouth magistrates on Wednesday June 18 and has been remanded in custody pending the next hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court tomorrow.

Police have appealed for information from the public in connection with the alleged offences.

They are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a woman in Holdenhurst Road just before midnight on Monday June 16.

Detective Constable Damian May, of Bournemouth CID, said: “She was found by members of the public in a partly undressed and visibly distressed state.

“She had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

"Even though a man has been arrested and charged, I am keen to hear from anyone who saw or spoke to the alleged victim after the incident.

“I am particularly keen to speak with a man - aged between 50 and 60, with light grey hair who was carrying a khaki coloured back pack - who was in the area at the time.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 16:533 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
