IT is one of the biggest events in the local calendar – and this year it should be better than ever before.

Organisers of the New Forest and Hampshire County Show say they have improved the event after listening to visitors' suggestions.

Around 95,000 people are expected to attend the three-day extravaganza in July which has caused problems with car parking in the past.

But organisers say new zonal car parks will make it easier for people to find their vehicles at the end of the day.

More improvements include dust suppressants on walkways, more seating and toilets, new baby changing areas and more drains and ditches.

The show guide will also feature a 'plan your day' section to help visitors make the most of their time while there will be more variety in food on offer.

Feedback was gathered through leaflets handed out at the end of last year's show with parking one of the top priorities.

The theme for this year is 'hands on' and several activities have been planned to allow everyone to get involved such as getting up close with cute rabbits and chicks in the show farm, taking on a tractor in a tug-of-war, casting flies with fishing experts and taking part in pottery lessons in the art tent.

International showjumping is also on offer alongside motorbike acrobatics and a grand parade.

The show takes place at New Park, Brockenhurst, from Tuesday, July 29 to Thursday, July 31 and there is a 10 per cent discount on tickets bought before July 21.
