THE architects behind a new zip wire for Bournemouth Pier have produced a video clip giving a rider's perspective of the exhilarating attraction.

Work on constructing a 250m long zip wire from the end of the pier is currently underway, with the attraction set to open in July.

The scheme is fully funded by pier operators Openwide and is designed to complement their new RockReef indoor adventure park in the former pier theatre.

The video clip has been produced by Wimborne-based architects DMWA Ltd, who achieved planning approval from the council for the project last November.

The zip line will be launched from a 17.5m platform at the end of pier, which riders travelling 250m over the sea and beach before reaching a landing platform, which has been designed to look like an upturned boat.

The dual track means two riders will be able to race each other to the beach.

It is believed to be the first zip line in the world where riders start on a pier, travel across the sea and land on a beach.

Steve Cutbush, managing director of Openwide International, said: “It will be a unique first for Bournemouth, becoming an iconic, modern and dynamic landmark for Bournemouth's Pier over the coming years.

“Openwide International Ltd has fully financed this exceptional new attraction from our own resources without any input from the public purse.

“We are delighted by the initial reactions to the indoor attractions, which opened on May 24, and are sure that the zip line will add even more excitement and thrills to beach goers this summer.”
