A TALENTED dancer from Bournemouth has won the only 100 per cent scholarship available to a prestigious performing arts school.

Katelyn Greenwood impressed selectors at the Stella Mann School in Bedford and is looking forward to taking up her place in September.

The 18-year-old is a former pupil of St Mark’s Primary and Glenmoor School and is currently studying dance at The Bournemouth and Poole College.

She dances at the Prompt Corner Academy of Dance under the leadership of Principal Katie Gill.

Katelyn’s proud mum, Jayne, said it seemed unbelievable that her daughter had successfully won the full scholarship and added that it felt like they had won the lottery.

She said: “Initially, the school gave her a 50-per-cent scholarship, along with a group of others, but she was later told that she been picked to get the 100-per-cent scholarship place.

“Katelyn has been dancing since she was six, doing ballet, tap and modern, and has also appeared in several pantomimes over the years.”

Jayne said that Katelyn's brother, Jed, 17, and sisters Lois, 13, and Rose, 11, had supported her all the way.

“I think her main aim is to go on to become a backing dancer, perhaps for a popstar, after she finishes at the school.

“We are all so proud of her and she's a great dancer, so we just hoped that she would get the scholarship at the school, and we are really glad that she has.”
