DORSET residents and emergency services personnel who risked their lives to help others will be granted medals at a ceremony on Thursday.

The Dorset Fire and Rescue Service annual awards ceremony takes place at Lulworth Castle, with awards for excellence, good conduct medals and commendations presented by High Sheriff of Dorset Jane Stichbury.

Rebecca Knox, chairman of Dorset Fire Authority, said: “I am delighted once again, to be able to celebrate the achievements of Dorset Fire and Rescue Service staff and members of the public who have taken extraordinary actions.”

Among those being honoured for their courageous actions are Liam Fontaine, who rescued his mother from a fire in Carters Avenue, Hamworthy on December 1, and police officers Lee Crawford and David Leonard, who saved the life of a resident in Oxford Avenue, Pokesdown, during a fire on June 29 last year.
