THOUSANDS of women, children and pooches dressed in pink crossed the finish line of the Race for Life in Bournemouth this morning.

Held to raise awareness, fundraising and support for Cancer Research, people from across the county tied up their trainers and donned pink vests, hair bands, tutus and more to take on either the 5k or 10k events.

Bournemouth seafront came alive in a sea of pink, as thousands of people warmed up, heard inspirational stories from those who have fought cancer, and shared a moment’s silence for those who had lost their battle.

Natasha Cole was part of a team of around 30 people taking part in the Race for Life in support of her daughter, Heidi Crowhurst, who died aged 28, following a battle with cancer.

She said: "We have been selling t-shirts, fundraising at the Queen's Park pub, and doing everything we can to raise money for Cancer Research."

Gemma Mills, who was another member of Team Heidi, said: "I am really pleased because I have beaten my target of £200 for the charity, with money still coming in from friends and family."

Katie Groves, 16, Nicola Groves, 43, Chloe Groves, 11, from Mudeford, and Sasha Woodward, 16, from Bashley, were also due to take part.

Katie said: "I am doing this because I lost two of my friends, Karen Andrews, and my neighbour, Moira Stirland, to cancer. My uncle, Gary Rafferty, also beat it after having cancer in his leg."
