THOUSANDS of people are expected to turn the seafront pink this weekend for Bournemouth’s Race for Life.

The event, which raises funds for Cancer Research UK, will take place along Pier Approach on Sunday, with both 5km and 10km distances available.

Helen Johnstone, Cancer Research UK’s spokeswoman for Dorset, said: “Whether taking part alone, with friends and family, or as a business with their own team, together we can help find cures faster for the 200 different cancers that exist.”

Among those taking part on the day are ladies from law firm Ellis Jones, who are celebrating a decade of entering Race for Life this year.

This year’s 11-strong team features women from departments, including management, support staff and trainee solicitors.

Compliance officer Catherine Tree said: “I decided to run Race for Life this year because my dad has been touched by cancer. “He made a good recovery. However, I cannot watch the Cancer Research adverts without remembering how I felt when he was diagnosed. The 10km race will begin at 9am, while everyone participating in the 5km route will leave at 11.30am.

Participants are advised to turn up an hour before their race starts.

There are no designated car parking facilities for the event and people driving into Bournemouth will be directed to use all available town centre car parks.
