A WEEK-long arts and music festival will take place at Christchurch Priory.

The Priory’s first Music and Arts Festival will feature a variety of musical styles at the ancient church along with workshops for school pupils.

The brainchild of Hugh Morris, director of music at the Priory, it is hoped the festival will provide something for everyone’s tastes.

Starting on Sunday with an afternoon recital by Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus, the programme includes 11 concerts and two school workshops – one with the Scott Brothers Duo and another with BackBeat percussion quartet.

On Tuesday, June 17, baroque music for oboe and harpsichord will take place at lunchtime followed by the David Rees-Williams Trio with classical and jazz music in the evening.

Michael Broadway will be connecting his pianola push-up to the Priory’s grand piano on Wednesday, June 18 with a concert at St George’s Church in Jumpers in the evening with the Alani String Quartet.

Popular organist Geoffrey Morgan will be playing an all-British programme on Thursday, June 19 with the BackBeat Percussion Quartet playing at the Priory in the evening.

On Friday, the lunchtime concert will see award-winning pianist Karim Said performing with Charlotte Bonneton on the violin and Christopher Graves on the cello.

Combined Priory choirs will perform that evening at 7pm and local harpist Stephanie Liney will give a recital on Saturday June 21 at St John’s Mission Church in Purewell.
