WORK has started on the construction of a second Sunseeker 155 Yacht, which is the largest vessel the Poole shipbuilder produces.
Sunseeker International founder and group president Robert Braithwaite oversaw the laying of the latest 155’s keel at the company’s shipyard at Poole Quay.
The firm remains tight-lipped about who the super yacht is being built for, and what the price tag will eventually be.
However, the company’s first tri-deck 155, completed earlier this year for Formula One mogul and BBC television presenter Eddie Jordan, cost a reported £32million.
Sunseeker is a major local employer and commission of a second 155 Yacht will be seen as a significant boost for the local economy.
On this latest project, a company spokesman said: “Following on from the success of the first 155 Yacht, this is the first stage of the build of the impressive second vessel.
“Similar to the owner of the first 155 Yacht, the client is taking full advantage of the bespoke element of this stunning vessel, so there will be differences between the two.”
The latest vessel will boast floor to ceiling ‘feature glass’ in both the master stateroom and two double guest cabins. It will also be propelled by more powerful engines than its earlier sister ship.
“What’s more,” said the spokesman, “the client is currently working with the Sunseeker team to finalise the details of the interior design to ensure the yacht is unique to them and reflects their personality.”
The vessel is scheduled for completion in early 2016.
