A RISING musical star from Poole is set to appear alongside choirmaster Gareth Malone at the BIC this weekend.

James Partridge, who attended Poole Grammar School, was selected from thousands of hopefuls striving to be part of 16-strong choir Gareth Malone’s Voices following a search for accomplished young singers.

An album was subsequently released at the end of last year and the 23-year-old is now in the midst of a nationwide tour.

James said it has been a hectic year and that he can’t wait to return to Dorset.

“I used to go to gigs at the BIC all the time so to be performing there myself really is a dream come true,” he added.

Gareth Malone attended Bournemouth School and, like James, used to perform as part of the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus.

“I have enjoyed talking to Gareth about his experiences,” said James. “It has been quite inspirational speaking to someone with such a similar background who has then gone on to achieve what he has.”

Since leaving Poole, James has graduated with a music degree from Cambridge University, sung with the Rolling Stones at the 02 arena and performed with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

James comes from a musical family, with older brother Dan appearing on television alongside West End legend Elaine Paige for the songstress’ new show on Sky Arts last month.

Belinda Partridge, James and Dan’s mother, said she is incredibly proud of her boys and seeing James up on stage at the BIC will be a special moment.

“I think the whole family will be there taking up an entire row,” she added.

James will be performing as part of Gareth Malone’s Voices at the BIC on Saturday.
