A NEW job club has been set up in West Howe.

It aims to help people looking for work or those looking to take the next step on the career ladder.

The brain child of resident Mikala James, and run by volunteers, Bournemouth Library Service and Skills & Learning, the club meets at the Henry Brown Youth Centre on Thursdays during term time from noon. Participants enjoy a lunch at the centre, followed by free training and computer workshops at nearby West Howe Library from 1pm to 3pm.

Job club members can get help and support with finding training, making job applications, preparing for interviews, using computers, and a wide range of other topics.

Martha Searle, Bournemouth Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Development Worker for West Howe, said: “Applying for a job, or preparing for an interview, can be quite a nerve wracking business, and we’re aware that many people need support with this.

“Finding the right training to improve your skills can be a job in itself so we try to help in any way we can.”

When participants first come to the club, they have a chat to the job club leader to identify what they want to achieve by attending.

Cllr Jane Kelly, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Getting employment and increasing your skills can give you sense of achievement that filters into every part of your life.

“We hope that the job club is giving those in West Howe that need it, the support to find their way through training, job seeking and getting the jobs they want.”
