Heathfield Bowls Club hosted their annual Gala Day over the bank holiday, and it was Streatham Park who shone brightest to take the top prize, writes Lucy Dyer.
Twenty teams descended on Sandgate Lane for the day’s competition, which started with the spider, whereby 80 players line the edge of the green and roll one wood towards a jack in the middle and the nearest wins – Liz Hamilton from Colliers Wood took the opening prize.
For the competition proper, each team played five games of six ends, and the hosts started strongly winning their opening three games.
By the final round of matches Streatham Park, Heathfield and Belmont were all on maximum points, and it was Streatham Park who maintained a 100 per cent record to bag first prize.
