RESPECTED local historian John Walker and former Daily Echo photographer Hattie Miles are hosting a guided walk to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
They will describe Bournemouth’s vital role in World War II, the effects of the devastating 1943 bombing and the days leading up to D-Day, when Bournemouth and Poole Bay played a vital part in preparations for the invasion of France.
John Walker, 81, was evacuated to Bournemouth from Portsmouth during the war years, and has strong memories of the time.
Walks will take place on Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, and anyone interested should meet outside the Tourist Information Centre in Westover Road ready for a 10.30am start.
Places cost £7.50, or £6 for students and over-6os. For more details, or group bookings on other dates, email johnwal@hotmail.co.uk.
