A FORMER dressmaker who walked a mile every day until she was 94 has celebrated her 102nd birthday.
Lillian Grisedale, born two years before World War One, celebrated at Elizabeth House care home in Parkstone on Wednesday.
The mother-of-one, who grew up in Islington, London, left school at 16. She enjoyed a successful career as a dressmaker.
To reflect her talents, Mrs Grisedale was presented with a birthday cake with edible buttons and sewing items.
Entertainer Dame Kitty sang wartime favourites and singalongs for residents at the home, where Mrs Grisedale is the second oldest resident.
Mrs Grisedale married at the age of 38 and has one daughter.
The couple moved to Poole in 1969 when her husband retired and she has lived in the town ever since.
When her husband died in 1978 she took up walking a mile a day.
Sharing her secret of a long life, she said: “I always stay out of trouble.”
Paul Beasley, of Elizabeth House, said the cake baked by the home’s chef was a masterpiece.
