NEW bigger blue bins are on their way to Poole residents in a bid to encourage them to recycle more.

By the end of the year households will have a larger blue recycling bin and a smaller black waste bin.

The swap will happen automatically and residents should leave their bins out by 6am on normal collection days between June 2 and the end of September.

“We launched the blue bin recycling scheme 10 years ago and since then changes in technology have meant that more items can now be recycled,” said Cllr Xena Dion, cabinet portfolio holder for the environment.

“These bigger bins will make it easier for households to recycle more, helping to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. We hope residents will find our new recycling booklet helpful, as it gives useful advice and tips as to how you can reduce waste in your black bin.

“This is a huge project and it will take us a few months to complete. We would like to thank residents for their patience during this change-over period.”

Approximately 30,500 households will be affected by the bin swap. Households which already have a large blue bin and a smaller black bin, or those who live in a flat with shared bins, will not be affected.
