BILLED as the world’s largest sporting and music festival by its organisers, revellers flocked to the seventh Bournemouth 7s Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Some 30,000 people headed to Chapel Gate for the event, which featured a host of sports as well as music and entertainment.

More than 360 teams took part in 28 tournaments, from elite to social competitions across four sports – rugby, netball, dodgeball and hockey.

As the sporting action drew to a close, live bands and DJs came to the fore, as party-goers, many in fancy dress, enjoyed the weekend.

There were 10 separate arenas across the event, with the Big Top Dance Tent new for this year’s event.

Roger Woodall CEO of Bournemouth 7s, said: “Following on from the huge sell-out success of 2013, it has to be said that this year’s festival was truly amazing.

“We are always looking for ways to better the festival experience each year and 2014 was no exception. This year’s festival was another sell-out with a staggering 30,000 people, 366 teams and 10 festival arenas hosting live acts and DJs all weekend. We have already received some incredible feedback from our sponsors, teams and festival goers and the planning for 2015 has already started, so watch this space.”

Sophie Christy, MD of Bournemouth 7s, added: “We cannot believe that the weekend has already come and gone already. Without doubt, this has been the most successful festival to date with so many global brands coming on board to offer festival goers a unique experience.”

She said the support of sponsors and locals had been “overwhelming”.
