A GROUP of Royal Marines will take a break from their 1,664km fundraising run around the UK in Poole this afternoon.
The runners will be passing through Bournemouth at around 11am before pausing for refreshments on Poole Quay at around 1pm.
The fundraisers are on the final leg of their epic 1664 challenge, marking the elite unit’s 350th anniversary.
While hundreds of marines have taken part in the different legs of the contest, six have undertaken the whole challenge so far, which began in February with them skiing 1,664km through Norway.
The challenge continued with a 1,664 nautical mile sailing trip around Europe to Cadiz, a 1,664km cycle trip back to the English Channel and a 30 hour kayak back to England for the run – which began on Monday.
The campaign, backed by Man of Steel star Henry Cavill, aims to raise £500,000 to help wounded marines and their families.
