PLANS for a retirement flats complex and new post office in Broadstone will be unveiled at a public exhibition this week.

Borough of Poole planning chiefs agreed proposals last year to redevelop the site at 2-14 Dunyeats Road into a four-storey mixed use complex with office, retail and flats.

However, retirement flats developer McCarthy & Stone, which has since acquired an interest in the site, say it has “become apparent” that the consented scheme “is not commercially viable to the market.”

The company is now working on plans for retirement apartments “while retaining elements of mixed retail use.”

It insists these plans include a new, modern premises for the post office, which is currently located within this stretch of Dunyeats Road.

Shane Paull, inset, of McCarthy & Stone said: “We have spent time carefully researching the character of the area to ensure that the proposal feels like it belongs to Broad-stone.

“It has been our aim to provide a signature McCarthy & Stone scheme for this gateway site into Broadstone and retain the Post Office.”

Residents will be able to see the latest proposals at the exhibition on Wednesday, from 3-7pm, at Broadstone Comm-unity & Arts Centre, Dunyeats Road, Broadstone.

Mr Paull added: “We want to hear from the local community before we submit a planning application.

“Our project team will be at the exhibition to answer questions and listen to feedback and the comments will help us tailor proposals into something people will want to see, enjoy and call home.”
