A PHYSIOTHERAPY centre in Bournemouth has celebrated its 10th anniversary by raising money for a cancer charity.

East Cliff Therapy Centre, Gervis Road, raised £12,000 for the Youth Cancer Trust after owners Tim Cruse-Drew and Nick Garland decided fundraising was the perfect way to mark the business’ landmark year.

Numerous events were organised by the pair, including training 10 runners to compete at the Bournemouth Marathon Festival, hosting a golf day and selling paintings donated by Nick’s artist brother Rick Garland.

They originally aimed to raise £10,000 and Tim said he is delighted that the target has been so greatly exceeded.

“It’s awesome. The generosity of people never ceases to amaze me,” he added.

All of the money raised will go to the Youth Cancer Trust, a charity which provides support and activity holidays for people aged between 14 and 30 who are living with cancer.

The charity’s events and fundraising co-ordinator, Derek Smith, said the money would help pay for eight cancer-stricken youngsters to go on holiday for three weeks next year.

“It was a surprise for all of us that they managed to get this far and raise so much money,” he added.

“It is easy for young cancer sufferers to feel isolated. We try and reduce that and increase their self-esteem. They can go horse riding, sailing, rock climbing and do all sorts of activities they would otherwise not have a chance to experience.

“These holidays give the young people a chance to be normal.

“They know that the people they are with will understand if they are not feeling well.”
