Well done to the organising committee yet another annual event for the Bournemouth Calander ? Lots of happy faces regardless of the weather ,one exhibit certainly did not get much attension from the petrol heads three guesses which one !!!!

So tonight, as well as fireworks there are four bike rides taking place. There are more details below. 

  • Town centre cycling circuit racing from 7.40pm - Wheels relay challenge, then elite racing around town at 8.25pm and nightglow ride at 9.30pm.
  • Bournemouth Round Table Bears on Bikes charity ride and world record attempt for most bears on bikes, at Boscombe Pier at 7pm.

Ever wondered what it's like to be inside the Dakar Rally car? well wonder no more.

Our lucky reporter Steve got the chance to ride in the Dakar car with the team during one of the shows earlier today and has this footage to share with us.

- Purbeck Hall, BIC, supercars on display between 12-6pm.

- Team Extreme arena (BMX, skateboarders, rollerbladers etc), with shows between 2pm and 8pm.

- Fireworks at the pier at 10.15pm to close the festival.

Yesterday's Dakar Rally shows were disrupted after one of the cars rolled and had to be fixed overnight. Thankfully, it's been put back together and is ready to go!

Here's a look at what's happening in Zone 1 today - located East Undercliff towards Boscombe Pier

Classic car pageant, which is in place from 10am before all cars depart the Festival at 6pm.

Dakar desert driving shows start at 12noon until 4pm.

He's said millions of pounds have gone into the local economy through this event.

Leader of the council John Beesley has this morning confirmed that the Wheels Festival is to return next year.

The councillor said this year's event has gone "amazingly well" and said it will join the Air Festival as one of the summer's "major events".

"2015 will be our second Wheels Festival," he added.

We've been speaking to Mark Smith, director of tourism at Bournemouth Borough Council, about the success of the first-ever Bournemouth Wheels Festival this morning. He said it's been "absolutely brilliant".

Bournemouth Echo: GLOW IN THE DARK: Chris Jarvis with pupils from Bethany School

The culmination of the night will be the free Nightglow procession from Pier Approach at 9.30pm, where people of all ages are encouraged to decorate their bike and themselves in brightly-lit, glow-in-the-dark accessories.

Fireworks will end the night at 10.15pm.

At 7.40pm, the town centre will be transformed into a racing circuit, starting with the Wheels Relay Challenge, involving 12 teams of four riders.

Then from 8.25pm, top cyclists will take part in an elite race around the town.

So today's line-up is different to Saturday and Sunday.

You'll still be able to enjoy the usual favourites such as the supercars, Monster Trucks and FMX arena but tonight there are not one but FOUR cycle events taking place around the town.

Kicking it off will be the free Bears on Bikes community ride and world record attempt for the most bears on bikes, raising cash for Round Table Children’s Wish. It starts at Boscombe Pier at 6.30pm.
