A 51-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempted robbery at a cashpoint in Christchurch.

At around 8.30am on Friday May 9, a woman in her 50s was allegedly threatened by a man holding a metal bar at the Nationwide cashpoint.

It is alleged the victim was putting money in her handbag when she was asked to hand it over by the man.

The victim refused and the alleged offender is believed to have fled in an estate car.

Police have arrested a 51-year-old from Portsmouth in connection with the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Dave Lyons, of Bournemouth CID, said: “As this incident took place in broad daylight, I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident or has any information that can assist the investigation to come forward.

“All calls are treated in the strictest confidence.”
