FLATPACK polling booths are being trialled in Poole in today’s Euro election.

The £10 cardboard pop-up booths will be used by students voting at Arts University Bournemouth at Wallisdown.

Some of Poole’s wooden booths date from the 1950s and are in need of replacement at a cost of more than £100 each.

The recyclable cardboard stands have been used in the USA and are being tried out in Poole ahead of the borough and parliamentary elections in May next year.

As well as being cheaper to produce, they will reduce the cost of storage, transport, cleaning and replacing conventional booths at the end of their life, says Borough of Poole.

This is the first time the council has stationed polling booths at the arts college with hopes that it will encourage more students to vote.
