SOME of the most legendary cars in motor racing history will be just one attraction of this weekend’s Bournemouth Wheels Festival.

Yesterday we detailed what can be seen in Zones One, Two and Three of the event and today it’s the turn of Zones Four, Five and Six.

Zone Four – Pier Approach, the Lower Gardens and town centre – includes a display of supercars inside the BIC, with some of the most sought-after vehicles of all time on show.

This zone also includes the FMX arena, which will be home to daring motorbike stunt riders, alongside a cycle village.

Outside the Pavilion in Westover Road will be a pre-war concours car event, sure to be one of the most glamorous aspects of the festival.

Zone Five, west of Bournemouth Pier, will be home to a never-before-tried event on the seafront.

On Saturday and Sunday evenings, one of FMX’s riders, Dan Whitby, will be attempting to jump over the pier in a not-to-be-missed finale to both days.

After that, revellers can party into the night with music on the stage at West Beach.

The final zone will be the one for the true petrolheads.

Zone Six is the East Overcliff demonstration course, where fans can see some of the most significant cars and bikes of all time come to life.

Among them will be Michael Schumacher’s Benetton F1 car, along with a selection of others, including the Toleman driven by Ayrton Senna when he entered the sport and the Hesketh 308, which James Hunt piloted in his early F1 days.

Also on the demo straight will be classic Le Mans cars, including the Ferrari Daytona and Ford GT40.

There will also be pre-war cars in the shape of a Bugatti Type 35 and a Frazer Nash SS, among other rare machines.

If that wasn’t enough, sports cars from the 1950s, including the Jaguar C Type and Aston Martin DB2 will also be there, as will Moto GP bikes.

To round each night off, there will be fireworks on the seafront. Andrew Francis, chairman of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board, said: “There’s really no need to go to Monaco, we’ve got supercars and F1 cars here in Bournemouth this weekend.

“That’s not forgetting the pier jump, live music and demonstration straight – which has never been staged in any UK coastal resort.

“We’re really excited to see these zones come to life and really hope everyone enjoys the first Wheels Festival.”

THE festival will be rounded off with self-propelled two-wheeled events on Monday night.

The Wheels Night Ride will involve three events on Monday evening.

Kicking it off will be the free Bears on Bikes community ride, raising cash for Round Table Children’s Wish. It starts at Boscombe Pier at 6.30pm.

Participants are encouraged to bring their bikes dressed with a bear to ride on the seafront and around the town centre – register at rtcw.org At 7.40pm, the town centre will be transformed into a racing circuit, starting with the Wheels Relay Challenge, involving 12 teams of four riders – register at bournemouth wheels.co.uk/take-part From 8.25pm, top cyclists will take part in an elite race around the town and any professional riders can register to take part.

As last year, the culmination of the night will be the free Nightglow procession from Pier Approach at 9.30pm, where people of all ages are encouraged to decorate their bike and themselves in glow-in-the-dark accessories.
