A RISING musical star from Bournemouth is set to appear on television with Elaine Paige tonight.

Libby Stimson, who grew up in Charminster, was chosen to feature in a new series with the West End legend after impressing her at an audition.

The 22-year-old will now be seen showing off her vocal range at 8pm on Sky Arts and receiving a personal masterclass from the songstress.

The former Bournemouth School for Girls student, who is in her final year studying musical theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, said performing in front of cameras and a live studio audience had been nerve-racking.

“I was very apprehensive but I think the performance went well and I am looking forward to seeing it,” she added.

“It was a fantastic opportunity and a dream to meet and work with Elaine.

“There have been many great opportunities at Mountview, but this is the cherry on top – I feel very lucky and very proud to have been chosen by Elaine for the show.”

Ambitious Libby, who performed numerous times at the Pavilion as a schoolgirl, is set to graduate this summer and said she is bracing herself for more auditions as she hopes to carve out a career in musical theatre.

Stephen Jameson, Mountview’s principal, said everybody at the academy was very proud of Libby.

He added: “The Elaine Paige Show is a fantastic insight into and celebration of the musical theatre world and it’s fantastic that Libby and Mountview have been recognised as part of that.”

The Elaine Paige Show, which features interviews and performances from an array of stage and screen stars, airs on Sky Arts at 8pm tonight.
