THERE are just three days to go until the first-ever Bournemouth Wheels Festival, which will be split into six zones.

Today we tell you about the first three, which will be seafront areas.

In Zone One, west of Boscombe Pier, there will be a classic car pageant from 10am each day – a chance to see some beautiful cars in all their glory.

This zone will also be home to the Dakar Rally desert driving display from the Excite Rallye Raid Team, which will be kicking up some sand three times a day.

Rounding off Zone One are military vehicles, showing some of the kit that is used every day by the armed forces.

Zone Two is the beach arena between Bournemouth and Boscombe and is all about big power and noise. It will be home to the Monster Truck show four times each day.

There will be plenty of thrills and spills in Zone Three, which is east of Bournemouth Pier and home to the Action Sports Arena.

Team Extreme will be showing that you don’t need an engine to excite the crowds, as they show off their skills on BMX, skateboards, rollerblades and more.

There are four shows a day.

Andrew Francis, chairman of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board, said: “There’s so much happening along the seafront zones and we’re really pleased to be welcoming back our great Forces supporters – the Royal Navy, and the Army with a Challenger 2 Battle Tank, Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle and Light Gun with its Pinzgauer towing vehicle, plus other Royal Artillery equipment.

“Anyone with a love of desert driving, pageants, car crushing monster trucks and action sports will be really overwhelmed with what’s coming.”

Get ready for the Wheels Night Ride

Bournemouth will be holding its second night bike ride this year as part of the Wheels Festival.

Following a similar event last year, the Wheels Night Ride will involve three events on Monday evening, the final day of the event.

Kicking it off will be the free Bears on Bikes community ride, raising cash for Round Table Children’s Wish. It starts at Boscombe Pier at 6.30pm.

Participants are encouraged to bring their bikes dressed with a bear to ride on the seafront and around closed roads – register at rtcw.org.

At 7.40pm that night, the town centre will be transformed into a racing circuit, starting with the Wheels Relay Challenge, involving 12 teams of four riders – register at bournemouthwheels.co.uk/take-part.

From 8.25pm, there will be an elite race around the town and professional riders can register to take part.

As last year, the culmination of the night will be the free Nightglow procession from Pier Approach at 9.30pm, where people of all ages are encouraged to decorate their bike and themselves in brightly-lit, glow-in-the-dark accessories.

Fireworks will top the night off at 10.15pm.
