STEAM was up on Poole Quay as mini engines forged up and down, delighting the many onlookers in the sunshine.

Nineteen pint-sized engines and a steam car called Jessamine were among the attractions as music played from a small fairground organ.

Steam enthusiasts from Poole, Swanage, Guildford and Dorchester chugged their engines up and down the quay, giving rides and raising funds for Boscombe Angels.

Organiser Richard Harvey, pictured, said this was the fourth time he had organised Mini Steam on the Quay.

“These are all friends of mine,” he said. “It is a chance for us to come and have a play.”

This was the first outing for his Burrell Crane Engine, which he had spent three-and-a-half months restoring.

“It was a wreck,” he said, of the now gleaming machine.

All road legal, the vehicles are insured and registered with licence plates and despite the steam have zero-rated tax discs.
