DWP Housing starts ‘largest ever developments’ in centre of Bournemouth

DORSET’S biggest private landlord has started one of its laregest ever developments in the centre of Bournemouth.

DWP Housing Partnership – formerly Dave Wells Properties – is investing £5m in 64 flats on Lorne Park Road, off Old Christchurch Road.

The site, covering more than an acre, has been cleared by Glossbrook Builders after the demolition of the existing properties.

The three blocks – two five storeys high and one four storeys high – should be finished in summer 2015. The flats are a mix of studio and one-bedroom homes.

Steve Wells, of DWP Housing Partnership, said: “We believe that this is a key development in Bournemouth and it will provide 64 quality homes to rent. Previously on the site near the town centre were three large detached houses.

“We are investing many millions of pounds in developments across Bournemouth and Poole as well as overhauling our existing housing stock.”

The company says it is planning more developments in the near future. It says it is investing significant sums in updating its housing stock while funding new purpose-built homes.

Rich Fooks, a director of Bournemouth-based Glossbrook Builders, DWP Housing Partnership’s preferred construction partner, is overseeing the development.

He said: “We have now commenced works on this project which is a multi-storey timber frame construction over a reinforced concrete basement car park.

“The works will be completed in the summer of 2015 and will generate employment for a large local sub-contractor base.”

Boscombe-based DWP was established as Dave Wells Properties in 1985. It houses more than 3,000 tenants.

Personally I think it's pretty disgusting that one landlord is allowed to build so many properties in one area. Many (although not all) of their tenants get housing benefit and therefore their empire - which is what it is - is funded by us, the UK taxpayer.

Why not just let this company have a compulsory purchase order to buy up the whole of Bournemouth and build property to house tenants from other parts of the country!!

Some of the comments on here regarding DWP are frankly ridiculous and from people who have no idea of what they are talking about, firstly it is outrageous to suggest that any tenant of DWP is some sort of lowlife, secondly DWP is actually investing hard cash into the local economy, and if you visit the houses and flats being built they are up to and beyond current housing standards, for those that attack him for having tenants on housing benefit, is that his fault? are those that are without work not allowed to rent anymore? it is a market that he has chosen unlike a lot of landlords who do not rent to Housing benefit tenants, but maybe rent to students who sometimes bring their problems to a neighbour hood, attack DWP on facts not what you think about them, and no I am not part of DWP

All the people whinging .

How many of the whinging arses benefitted from Thatcher's wonderful idea to let councils sell of housing stock?

Housing that was sold on the cheap IE SUBSIDISED. This is how people like Wells have become rich.

As for whining about 'Housing benefit scroungers' etc. Let's not forget more people who are WORKING claim benefits than those who don't work.
Over 50% of all benefits paid out are paid to retired/OAP's.

No doubt these facts are ignored by those who will once again vote in the party that is slowly destroying NHS along with privatising ANYTHING that they can, thus making those close to the political elite even richer.

The Government have certainly managed to lie & fool so many people. I bet Camoron & Co can't believe how dumb the voters are.

The same people who voted them in, will be the 1st to whine when NHS & CP charges slowly come into effect.

Of course it will be those druggies, rehabs, drinkers, single mothers, immigrants etc. fault. GOT TO HAVE A SCAPE GOAT.

As for the MORONS suggesting everyone from the North West will flood into Bournemouth, the town bigger than many cities, populated by people with a village mentality. Pathetic.

The 'North West' invasion happened in the late 70's into the 80's.
