TWO local community groups have planted poppy seeds in Poole as part of the borough’s commemoration of the First World War.

Members from Poole Swimming Club, of all ages, chose to plant theirs around the cross adjacent to the Dolphin Swimming Poole while the Poole Cherbourg Twinning Association planted theirs on the Cherbourg roundabout opposite the old lifeboat station on Poole Quay.

The Twinning Association is closely involved in the 70th commemoration of D-Day, which 40 veterans will attend, and the Liberation of Cherbourg event on June 26.

Members of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are playing a series of concerts during the D-Day anniversary events in Normandy and Manche, culminating in a performance of The Armed Man at the Cite de la Mer on Monday, June 9 where they will be joined by the Lower Normandy Orchestra and Choir for a free concert.

The Poole Cherbourg Twinning Association makes bursary awards to students, visiting, working or studying in the twin town.
