A BUMPER season of fun is on the cards in Poole following the announcement of 70 free family events for Wave 105’s Summer-time in the South 2014.

The largest free family events programme in the south was launched at Poole’s Custom House on Friday, where guests were treated to some classic swing music from Neil Hansler – one of many live acts set to entertain this summer.

Among the events to watch this year include the Harry Paye Charity Fun Day, Poole Quay, June 21; Folk on the Quay Fest-ival, June 28/29; Sandbanks Beach Polo, July 11/12, and Ashley Cross’s Party in the Park, set for August 23/24.

Other highlights include the Rallye Dorset, Poole Thai Festival, the Inside Out Arts Festival and the programme’s concluding November 5 Fireworks Spectacular.

And, of course, Poole’s traditional Summer Breeze fireworks and entertainments – sponsored by Breeze Volkswagen – take place at the quayside every Thursday evening, from 7pm, between July 24 and the end of August.

Poole Tourism chairman Bruce Grant-Braham said: “Thanks to the continued support and investment of our sponsors, we are able to refresh, evolve and develop Poole’s special events programme.

“Nowhere else provides the fantastic mix of arts, motorsports, classic motorbikes, folk music, rampaging pirates and fabulous fireworks.

“The quality and range of Poole’s special events is always superb and we look forward to Wave 105’s Summertime in the South programme that entertains residents and visitors alike.”

Wave 105 managing director Martin Bell said the events put Poole on the map and provide pleasure for thousands of people.

He added: “We are extremely proud to support it.”

Meanwhile, managing director of Breeze Volkswagen John Corderoy said: “Summer Breeze is the centrepiece of Poole’s superb events programme and each year it gets better.

“The live music, dance, street entertainers and fireworks create six weeks of perfect summer family entertainment.”
