DORSET Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill has welcomed news that the Government has reversed its decision to cut support to families of people murdered before 2010.
Writing in his weekly blog, he said: “This issue has received widespread support from the public and the Government was right to reconsider this decision. It is incomprehensible to think that funding could have been taken away from these bereaved families.”
He also thanked the 2,100 people who signed his petition on the subject.
Mr Underhill also recognised criticism from the HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate, reported by the Daily Echo, on issues with the CPS in Dorset. He said he was “seriously concerned” by the report, which said that the county had a high number of “unsuccessful outcomes” in cases.
“What we do know is that each poor performance statistic equals a failed victim,” he said.
