WORK to replace ageing beach huts with 18 new ‘super huts’ is underway at Bournemouth’s Alum Chine.
The super huts are larger than traditional beach huts and come with no waiting list. However, anyone wishing to snap up a seafront base will have to pay £39,950 for a 25-year lease.
The 18 beach huts are located to the west of Alum Chine and will be identical to those previously built opposite the Vesuvio Restaurant. They will be painted in contemporary beach colours but the inside can be decorated as the owner wishes.
Cllr Lawrence Williams, portfolio holder for tourism, leisure and culture, said: “The existing huts have reached the end of their life after many years on the seafront and need to be replaced.”
