RESIDENTS of a Bournemouth street were shocked to see a bus wheel rolling along the pavement on Monday.
The wheel came off a Yellow Buses single deck bus as it was travelling down Glenferness Avenue towards Branksome Wood Road at around 5pm, causing the vehicle to skid to a halt a few metres further on.
Fortunately the bus was not in service and had no passengers on board.
Resident Robert Tisshaw said: “I was just walking out of the front door of a neighbour’s house when I saw the wheel spinning past the driveway.
“It was travelling very fast and if it hit someone it could have caused a serious injury.
“The driver was pretty shaken up, he said it had come off about 50m up the road and the bus bumped and skidded all the way along.
“They had some mechanics along to fix it up pretty quickly and the whole thing was cleared away in about five minutes.”
Jenni Wilkinson, head of marketing for Yellow Buses, said the incident was still being investigated.
“We can confirm that there was an incident with a vehicle’s wheel just after 5pm yesterday in Glenferness Avenue,” she said.
“As the vehicle was not in service there were no passengers on board and no injuries were caused. We are currently investigating exactly what happened.”
