Friends to host fundraising concert in memory of Bournemouth School for Girls pupil Connie Moore who died of meningitis

The Year 11 student was taken ill shortly after taking her mock GCSE exams in January and her death caused shockwaves throughout the school community. Now her friends and fellow students have organised A Concert For Connie which will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 1, at the Lifecentre in Winton.

Organiser Charlotte McDonald, deputy headgirl at BSG, said all profits will go to the charity, Meningitis Now.

“The concert aims to celebrate her life through the celebration of music, as Connie was very musical herself, whilst raising money for the charity Meningitis Now.”

Most of the performing cast at the student-led event knew Connie in some way. All of Connie’s family, as well as charity representatives, are attending the concert.

There will be performances by The Funky Little Choir which Connie used to be a member of, and also by Stagedoor School of Dance, Frame-work, The Dual, the Wessex Youth Orchestra and other young soloists, all supported by a 10-piece band.

Connie’s mum, Kathleen Moore said: “I am touched that this event has been organised in memory of Connie, and can’t thank everyone enough for their ongoing support.”

Musician and former Bournemouth School student, Adam Tuffrey, who will be performing on the night and himself battled bacterial meningitis when he was just six-years-old, said: “We are hoping the event will be a fitting way to celebrate the life of Connie.

“We want to sell as many tickets as possible and feel this is a great way for people to show their support for a young girl whose life was cut tragically short.”
