CAKES, cooking demos and circus workshops will make up some of the events on offer at this year’s Christchurch Food Festival.

The foodie extravaganza will take place over the weekend of May 10 and 11, with the Kings Arms in Christchurch hosting a number of favourite events, as well as some new ones.

New for 2014 is its ‘Live on the Lawn’ family fun day, being held on Sunday, May 11.

Live music, interactive theatre from the Minky Moos’ Pirates & Princesses performers, a fantastic circus workshop, giant inflatable slide, face-painting, food from street market traders and much more will be on offer.

Supported by Christchurch partners including The Regent Centre, Fairtrade, FilerKnapper, Waitrose and William Thompson, the event will see the community gather together for a fun-filled day for all the family.

The Kings will also host this year’s ‘Great Christchurch Bake Off’ day in its pavilion on the bowling green.

The event will include baking demonstrations and live judging with amateur and professional bakers invited to show off their culinary skills by entering the bake off competition.

Adult categories include chocolate cake, scones, meringues, Dundee cake and novelty cake.

Children’s categories include cupcakes, gingerbread men and novelty cake.

The day will also include a series of cake decorating demonstrations in The Kings Pavilion, to include a Super Mario, vintage ‘shabby chic’ and Chanel handbag cake.

There is no entry fee.

Other events taking place over the weekend include lunch with award-winning chef Cyrus Todiwala and a two-year anniversary Supper Club.
