A MOTHER from Throop had the surprise of her life after she came home from a six-week trip to find her daughters had given her house a complete makeover.

Theology student Angela Pitt returned home after completing a placement at a church in New Zealand to find her bedroom, kitchen, dining room, bathroom and conservatory had all been redecorated.

Mrs Pitt said she was astounded to see what her daughters Lianne, aged 20, and Natasha, aged 18, had been up to when she was away.

“It was just amazing,” she said.

“I couldn’t believe they had been able to do so much.

“When I was away there was a leak in the bathroom so they had to deal with that as well. I just couldn’t believe it.”

The 45-year-old said she was apprehensive about leaving her children for so long and had to be persuaded to take up the placement in New Zealand.

“As part of my final year I had to do a six-week placement away from home,” she explained.

“At first I didn’t want to go. My daughter has type-one diabetes.

“She was really hyper last year and had to be hospitalised a few times so I didn’t want to be a long way from home but they told me it was an opportunity of a lifetime and I should go.”

Accepting her daughters’ advice she reluctantly went on the trip and had no idea what her daughters had planned.

“I have been studying for this degree coming up three years.

“To come home to find that the house had been redecorated was incredible,” she said.

“I don’t know how they managed to do all this work and continue with their own commitments, but I think it’s a great tribute to what young people can do when they set their heart on it.”
