A FIRE at Moors Valley Country Park is believed to have been started deliberately.

More than 40 firefighters battled a heath fire at Moors Valley Country Park yesterday afternoon.

A swathe of land measuring 100 metres by 150 metres was ablaze.

Six fire engines, four Land Rovers and a Unimog all-terrain vehicle were all sent to the scene totalling around 40 firefighters.

The fire took hold of a swathe of land near Watchmoor Wood Bike Park, which is owned by the Forestry Commission.

A spokesperson from the park said no one needed to be evacuated, and added: "It's not near the Visitor Centre, so it hasn't had a huge impact on people visiting today."

The attraction is open as normal today.

BBC news site said 'Dorset fire service said the area affected measured 170m (560ft) by 120m (390ft).'
Can't the Echo get anything right, yesterday the Echo said '100 metres by 150 metres' but I wonder who was wandering about with a tape measure?

Perhaps I am wrong, but I was under the impression that this forum was to comment on the story, not to offer mathmatical lessons, or english lessons, or demise ones comments, that usually are the only ones that refer to the story in question.

so they suspect it was deliberately caused, but they didnt say what has caused that suspicion. was there something there which was clearly placed? next they will be doing bag searches before letting people access these places, and perhaps thats not such a bad idea. stop all those dodgy looking ones from wandering around flicking matches or cigarettes around with no interest in consequences.

at least a bag search might deter idiot people in exchange for a minor inconvenience to the general decent public. ban on anyone bringing matches for a start. sadly you cant ban cigarettes from there, too much backlash would happen.
