From swimsuit fashions to Conservatives in conference, videos released by British Pathe have provided a fascinating insight into Bournemouth’s history over the years.

Released onto You Tube for the first time, the entire collection includes more than 3,500 hours of some of the most significant moments in world history.

The film archive has made more than 85,000 rare 20th century videos to the public, and included in the vast release is the unique footage of both World Wars, the Titanic, boxing legend Muhammed Ali and England’s glorious 1966 World Cup victory over Germany.

The films span 1896 to 1976.

For those interested in Bournemouth events over the years you can check out footage of the Bournemouth v Manchester Game in 1957, swimsuit fashions and politicians visits to the area.

You can also see whether our rough weather this year matched that of 1962 with footage of some stormy seas at Bournemouth and shots of Branksome Chine.

And you can also compare Bournemouth Tourism's award winning promotional video for the resort against a fascinating effort from the 1930s.
