FIREFIGHTERS from Poole were sent to Ham Common this afternoon after an area of heath caught light.
The fire service said it received “numerous” calls from members of the public at around 1.25pm.
Two fire engines from Poole, including the specialist off-road appliance, and one Land Rover from Hamworthy were sent to the scene.
When the crews arrived, they called for another Land Rover and appliance to attend.
Crews had put the fire out by 2pm and remained on the scene to damp the area down.
A spokesman for the fire service added: “Be extra careful this time of the year when walking around on heathland, near crops or in woodland. The smallest spark can start a fire that can quickly get out of control.”
