No challenge to leadership of Poole's Conservative group leader Elaine Atkinson

Bournemouth Echo: Cllr Elaine Atkinson Cllr Elaine Atkinson

A THREATENED vote of no confidence in the leader of the Conservative group on Poole Council did not materialise.

Cllr Elaine Atkinson believed she would face a challenge to her leadership at the meeting of the 19 Tory councillors on Monday night.

Group secretary Cllr Judy Butt told the Daily Echo that a vote of no confidence in council leader, Cllr Atkinson, had “been called by several Conservatives”.

However Cllr Ann Stribley, who has served as group leader said after the well attended group meeting: “I am extremely pleased to report that there was neither proposer nor seconder for the rumoured vote of no confidence, nor did anyone make any move to speak on the subject.”

Cllr Atkinson told the group she intended to step down as group leader at the annual general meeting in May. And she intends to remain leader of the council.

Yes it would be an interesting experiment if The Echo were to move to an open profile forum where people had to use a proper name and profile photo etc.

Some of the comments I read on here are quite frankly disgusting, to think that some of them come from fully grown adults really is quite sad.

For goodness sake Pete, stop being so childish. If it's bothering you so much why I don't give my surname, I'll put you out of your misery. There will be loads of Pete Woodley's around of which you could be any one of them and there will be many with the surname Woodley. I have a very unusual surname, which the few other members of my family obviously also have and could be identified by it. I will not allow myself to risk them being associated my comments because they might not agree with me, and morally I have no right to subject them to speculation or be associated with MY views. Simple as that - protecting others.
.......
And get your facts right - I only think that people connected with politics should give their names, as you do, because they have a vested interest; I have not. I have never made personal comments about anyone except the anonymous cyberbully who makes vitriolic attacks on Judy Butt. A local newspaper is not the place to pursue a personal vendetta, and even worse anonymously.
.......
Only those who were privy to discussions inside the group, know what went on over the past few days and why the vote of no confidence didn't take place. All the speculation and nasty comments in the world won't change that fact so there's no point in doing so.

And, the truth behind this no vote, is that Judy Butt hasn't got the support of any of the others, not one would support her, and she needed two, to be able to call a vote.
She has caused all this upset and tried to turn everyone against each other just because she threw her toys out of the pram and went off on one. She is the best weapon the Liberals have in the Conservative party,, she is attacking from the inside.

Agree,, however, she was voted in as a Tory, so to do the right thing she should resign, call a by election, and if she wants stand again as an independent, or for whatever party will have her,, I know the Liberals won't have her, not sure about Poole Peoples, but then again they are finished, perhaps UKIP will have her, but I suspect they have far better candidates already.

So you expect Judy Butt to do what the other two defectives, sorry defectors who were elected as Conservative Councillors in Parkstone have failed to do, i.e. resign and stand as candidates for their new Party in their original ward, or even where he lives in the case of Tony Woodcock, the erstwhile immigrant from Southbourne.

Such a shame that no-one had the stomach to stand up and tell Atkinson she should go. Maybe it just demonstrates that the Tories in Poole have no strength in depth, no obvious contender for the leadership; this could just completely scuttle their chances of anything approaching a decent showing in the next election.

Despite PooperScooper's personal vendetta, it's likely that all three ward councillors in Creekmoor will be re-elected if they stand. They put in a solid job representing their electors over the TSP fiasco, and Creekmoor residents remember only too well that it was the LibDems that master-minded the P&R disaster. Eades' petulant hatred of Creekmoor is well known, even if the reasons for it are utterly mysterious. Does anyone think that Creekmoor will risk voting him in to leadership of the council, leaving him free to vent his spite?

Yes I am on a personal vandetta against Judy Butt.

Pretty obvious isn't it.

Notably I don't address issues.

Just slang of Cllr Butt from behind my big tough screen of anonymity.

But tomorrow will be revealed who I am.

Those within council circles will not be surprised.

They will not Roll over in shock.

Its not going to take a Smith to unlock this one folks.

Just one pretty miserable pretty small-minded bitter little man hiding in the dirt and shaddows - hoping someone will give hom some attention.

Well seeing as Supersnooper claims to be something to do with the Conservative party and is slagging people off on their behalf as well as waging a personal vendetta, perhaps you should be doing something about him - he's damaging your party.

I'm just happy she's finally acknowledged that she's not up to the job ... as you suggest, that kind of means she's not up to either role. Now let's see who emerges as contenders for both. Not looking promising so far...
Well again shows your ignorance, if you keep up on local issues you would know that Atkinson was never going to put herself up as group leader in the run up to the election anyway,, it's old news, no one in the group forced anyone, as the lack of a single person to support Butt Monday showed.
The group leader has to run the election, and I suspect the next election will be a tough one, so it's far too much to have the leader of the council, running that and also trying to run the election.
It always used to be two seperate people before Atkinson was given both jobs.
As for leading the council, there isn't any call from anyone from either party for her to leave that, believe it or not she happens to be regarded by the Conservative party as one of the UK's best leaders.
Of course I suspect she will move on to bigger and better things in a few years, which would actually be a loss to Poole,,,, unless someone comes along after the next election that shows promise. But I suspect more likely one of the old guard will get the job and quickly realise it's too much for them.
Will be an interesting few years, look out for some major gaffs in the future,, bit like that Wessex way extension that never was,, probably the countries most expensive kid play ground now,,, let me try to remember who did that one ?

Well done on using your own name, shame more don't have the courage to do so but please do not ask SS to stop she is doing such a wonderful job of showing us all how knowledgeable she is in Council matters and how ignorant the rest of us are and with every comment she makes on here I envision yet another Conservative member googling UKIP. She actually couldn't be more obvious about her own political allegiance without actually putting LibDem next to her name.

People tend to forget that elected councillors do not have a clue about the job they have been elected to do, MP's are even worse. So what do they do, they all protect each other when they are rubbish at their job. If councils were run as private businesses they would all go skint, and most probably are.
No time for any of them they are mostly too old and on a ego trip, the last of their life, to do anything right, irrespective of their so called political allegiance.
If you don't believe me go and observe a public protection committee meeting of Dorset CC, yes it would probably be better if it was cricket club and not county council!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you ladies need to realise is it's not a life or death issue,, it's just words and it's opinions, I really don't know shy you take it all so seriously,, I know there are a good few councillors that have grown to depend on the money to live,, but really,, it's all a bit of a joke,, if every councillor didn't turn up for a month,, nothing would change, everything would just carry on,, your not that important,, your just under qualified people with an overinflated opinion of yourselves...

Chill out a bit... Life is too short...
A female LibDem with an over inflated opinion of herself, probably North Poole councillor and a business owner who reckons she makes great cakes. I don't think people really need anymore clues than that :)

And there was me being led to believe that UKIP had a monopoly on fruitcakes and loonies!

You have to sit back and laugh sometimes at how highly strung so many people are....
You really need to get out a little more and discover there is a whole real world out there. We live a very short life and blowing a gasket over a few home truths on here really doesn't merit the effort..

Chill out, the armchair politicians, the hangers on, the wannabes, just step back and have a look at yourself. Really is this all your life entails.?

Have a happy Easter everyone, eat chocolate, enjoy a few days off, you may like it.

Well I have been around the world six times and seen many different cultures, I've drank with tramps and dined with princes and I have to say I have never come across anyone as conceited and down right nasty as you. Yet here you are now wishing everyone a happy easter in some kind of smug way. I do find that somewhat incredible, as the old saying goes, you reap what sow and karma can be a real... Happy easter to everyone else ;)

Or could it perhaps be the male half of the duo? But still for the female half - pot, kettle, back; definite transference from her.

Shall we just count up the number of posts on this and a couple of other threads to see who really does need to get a life? Quantity and quality seldom go hand in hand, do they Poops?
