THE weather may be finally warming up, but a Bournemouth fundraiser is preparing to take part in a chilly adventure.

Rachel Turner, 26, pictured, has signed up for an Arctic Challenge organised by Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities Plus. She will be setting off for Sweden next January to raise funds for the charity which supports children and adults with disabilities throughout the county, and is now urging others to join her.

Rachel is taking part in the challenge as her brother Sam, 24, also pictured, has been supported by the charity for the last 10 years, thanks to the Barnabas day opportunities service and short break and home support options that are provided by Smithers and Shapes.

She will enjoy husky driving, snowmobiling around the mountains, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and shelter building during the seven-day adventure.

Rachel said: “I was looking for an opportunity to gain confidence, get out of my comfort zone, try something new and to help others at the same time. Raising money for Diverse Abilities Plus is very personal to me as my brother uses a number of the services provided by the charity.”

Rachel has already raised £690 towards her £2,750 fundraising target. To donate visit justgiving.com/rachel-turner87 To sign up for the challenge – entry is £200 – call Sharon Wells on 01202 718266 or email sharon.wells@diverseabilities plus.org.uk
