THE Daily Echo has been nominated for another prestigious award.

The Bournemouth-based newspaper has been shortlisted in the Daily/Sunday Newspaper of the Year category at the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards.

It will go up against the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, the Carlisle News and Star, Lancashire Telegraph, The Gazette, Blackpool, and The Journal, Newcastle.

The prizes will be handed out at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel on Friday, May 16.

The awards celebrate the best in British regional newspaper journalism for 2013 in print, online and any other news platform.

Also nominated is Samantha Harman, of sister title the Dorset Echo, who is in the running for Young Journalist of the Year.

Toby Granville, group editor of the Daily Echo and Dorset Echo said: “I am delighted that in the last six months since winning the EDF Energy award for Daily Newspaper of the Year last November, the Daily Echo has been commended at a national newspaper awards ceremony and is now nominated again for another award.

“It clearly demonstrates that the industry recognises that the Daily Echo's talented team is consistently delivering the highest standards in journalism.”

Chairman of the judges Paul Horrocks added: “Once again the judges have been astounded by the scale and quality of the entries that come out of the regional and local press. We very much look forward to welcoming the shortlisted candidates on May 16 to further celebrate the work of the regions.”

The latest nomination for the Daily Echo comes after it won EDF Energy London and the South Newspaper of the Year last November.

It was also shortlisted for Regional Daily Newspaper of the Year at the 2014 Fujifilm Newspaper Awards, as was the Dorset Echo.

The awards are organised by the Society of Editors in conjunction with the Newspaper Society and are held in association with industry website HoldtheFrontPage and the Press Association.
