POLICE have arrested 22 people this year for Class A drug offences as part of a Bournemouth town centre crackdown.
Operation Vertum has seen increased high-visibility and covert patrols in the Triangle and West Cliff areas aimed at disrupting the supply of controlled drugs, with 65 people stopped and searched between January 1 and March 31. Seven of those arrested were picked up during one week between March 17 and 21.
Bournemouth Central Neighbourhood Inspector Heather Dixey said total crime in the area for that period was down by 150 reported offences, a drop of three per cent.
“Misuse and supply of drugs within Bournemouth will not be tolerated and anyone caught dealing drugs in our communities will be dealt with robustly by the courts,” she said.
“I would like to thank the community for their assistance with this operation and for providing information which has helped us target and disrupt illegal drug supply in Bournemouth.”
