A FATHER from Ramsbottom who recently lost his wife to cancer and suffers from the disease himself has paid tribute to fundraisers who have donated more than £2,000 to Bury Hospice.

Angela Moses, who was a nursery nurse at St. Joseph’s RC Primary, died on February 6, at the age of 54, after a seven-year battle with cervical cancer.

Her husband Dylan is now undergoing his own battle, after being diagnosed with lung and prostate cancer last March.

Mr Moses, of Treetops Avenue, Holcombe Brook, said: “We had a double shift of it, spending a lot of time at The Christie hospital in Manchester. It will get me in the end, I just don’t know how long I have got in the meantime.

“As of October my treatment had finished, and it was as well as can be expected. I have to go for more tests in the summer.”

A total of £2,174.48 has been raised for the hospice where Mrs Moses spent the last days of her life, the majority of which was collected on the day of her funeral at St Hilda’s Church in Tottington on February 14.

Mr Moses, aged 56, said: “We saw what great work they did, and rather than flowers, we thought we would try to raise as much money as we could for them.

His wife had battled the illness for seven years, and now Mr Moses, who previously worked as a police officer and a roofing contractor, was forced to give up work 12 months ago to undergo his treatment.

The couple have two children, 22-year-old son Tom, who works as a tree surgeon, and 19-year-old daughter Emma, who is studying biochemistry at the University of Leeds.

The ashes of Mrs Moses, who had worked at the school for 23 years, were scattered by his family on Mother’s Day.
