A PASSION play which is thought to be Dorset’s largest community theatre production will take to the streets next week.

Through the Eyes of a Child will bring a procession to the streets of Parkstone in the run-up to Easter.

It tells the story of the last days of Jesus Christ through the perspective of a child and is organised by the independent theatre group Poole Passion.

Poole Passion plans to run the performance every four years.

Supported by the BBC Performing Arts Fund, the production will start at Parkstone United Reformed Church in Commercial Road, from where the cast and audience will parade through the streets for the final scenes at St Peter’s Church.

Writer and artistic director Sharon Muiruri said: “The most important reason for the production is to create a community and bring people together who would probably never usually meet.

“It’s also about striving to create a piece of theatre with high production standards.”

Poole Passion is based on community involvement and its acting talent draws on all sections of the community, from the ages of four to 89.

Local organisations supporting the production include the charity Action on Addiction, which produced a table for the Last Supper scene, and Tapper Funeral Services, which provided storage for the play’s larger assets.

There will be four performances between Wednesday, April 9 and Saturday, April 12, 7pm, with a 2pm Saturday matinee.

Tickets cost £6 (concessions £4) and are available at St Peter’s Parkstone parish church office on 01202 749085 or at poolepassion.com
