A CAR rolled into Poole Park Lake in the early morning after a reported handbrake failure, police say.

The blue Peugeot 206 was stuck in the boating lake in need of some heavy machinery to raise it back to dry land.

Borough of Poole told the Daily Echo they were aware of the issue and the police had been in contact with the car’s owner.

Dorset Police were informed of the incident around 12.40am this morning.

The car is registered to a woman from Blandford, but it was being driven by a man at the time.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “No-one was in the vehicle when it rolled into the lake. It looks like the handbrake was applied, the driver has got out of the car and it has then rolled into the lake.”

The car was recovered at around 12.30pm.

Don't know if its a diesel car or not but years ago it used to be illegal to leave diesels in gear when parked.

I can't believe I'm having to explain this, but it rolled from a mysterious place commonly referred to "outside of the photograph" and happened to end up next to another section of lake side.

Yes in the old days a diesel would start running if pushed when left in gear as they only had mechanical engine shut offs and were always ready to start. Over the last 25 years or so, certainly with cars, there is now electrical control of the engine through the ignition, and more recently through Electronic Engine management
