DIABETES affects around 37,000 people in Dorset. Now people who have to self-test their blood sugar are being invited to help with a review of glucose monitoring equipment.
A series of events has been organised by NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group as part of a review of existing arrangements.
Dr Andrew Macklin, diabetes consultant from Dorset County Hospital explains: “We are currently undertaking a project to streamline the range of blood glucose monitoring equipment across the county and consider the input of those people already self-monitoring their levels to be invaluable.
“Monitoring of glucose levels is important as it helps people to identify both low and high blood glucose readings at a level before they cause symptoms.
“Glucose meters help people with diabetes in controling their diabetes, as well as being required by the DVLA for drivers on insulin or certain tablets. “With such an important set of choices to make, we are encouraging anyone who is affected to come along and give us their opinions.”
