DETECTIVES investigating the alleged murder of a woman in Bournemouth have named her as Mashael Albasman.

One man is still in custody following the 25-year-old Kuwaiti student's death in St Michael's Road, near The Triangle on Sunday.

Police were called on Sunday around 12.30pm where they found her body in a first floor flat, close to the Manchester Hotel. 

Next of kin have been made aware and the coroner was notified.

Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses following the incident.

Detective Inspector Stewart Balmer, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The investigation is still ongoing.

“After the formal identification today, I can now confirm that the victim is a 25-year-old Kuwaiti national by the name of Mashael Albasman. She came to the UK to study in November last year.”

A 58-year-old man who is living in Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is still helping detectives with their enquires.

DI Balmer continued: “We know that the victim and the arrested man are known to each other. It is the circumstances leading up to Mashael’s death that are the focus of our enquiries.

“The suspect was located within the premises and had injuries which required hospital treatment.

“If anyone has heard or seen anything suspicious at the time in the area, I urge them to come forward as soon as possible.

“I am appealing for anyone with information about the incident or who may have known Mashael to contact Dorset Police on the non-emergency number or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
